Composer Virginia Firnberg will be leading a soundwalk, for groups including families with young children, teenagers, and arts practitioners. Explore the sounds of Wanstead flats and surrounding areas with guided listening exercises, interactive sound events as well as hands-on activities and a 'sound treasure hunt' for youngsters.

Artists, Writers and Composers, get inspired at these two hour, hands-on, workshops showing how music techniques can be used across the arts disciplines.
During the workshops, you will listen to a short presentation of a specific musical technique, then you will learn how to apply this technique to your own work in a supportive environment alongside creatives from your own or others’ disciplines. In addition, there will be opportunities to learn from each other’s work. You will ideally need three or more years experience in your own discipline.
Composers: bring a pencil, a rubber and manuscript paper, and/or a computer with your favourite composing programme on, a keyboard will be provided. Artists: bring any material that you would like to work with. Writers: notebook and pen, laptop etc.
In a warm, fun and supportive atmosphere, we will sing warm-ups, some songs (from a range of Folk, Classical, Gospel, Jazz, Pop, Rock etc.), have a cup of tea and a chat, sing a few more songs, and go home, or go to the pub, then do it all over again the next week. Virginia will direct, she is an experienced musician, composer, educator and arranger and is currently the musicial director for The three Valleys Male Voice choir, among other things.
For those with some basic ability to read musical notation, including: the five-line stave, treble and bass clefs, simple rhythmic values and time signatures. This course extends your understanding of music notation and theory, and will assist instrumental learning, singing, musicianship and general understanding of music.
Ideally taken by those who have done Introduction to Reading Music A and B. Excellent for those singing in a choir.
