Music Concepts for Writers: Drones
How to use the musical concept of a 'drone' in your writing

Saturday 19 September 2015, 10.30-12.30
£12.50

In this workshop, we will be focusing on the musical concept of 'Drones', and how we can apply that concept to your writing.  A Drone in music is a technique or effect whereby a single note or chord is sounded throughout most or all of a piece. We will look at what can be the 'fixed note' in your writing, i.e. what is it that underpins your content and provides a stabilizing background tone. Drones will first be explained and demonstrated, then you will do written exercises to explore this concept, this will be followed by a 'show-and-tell' of work achieved.

Music Concepts for Writers: Cadences
Music Concepts for Writers: Cadences
The Mill, 7-11 Coppermill Lane, Walthamstow, London E17 7HA, United Kingdom
Saturday 26 September 2015, 10.30-12.30
£12.50

How you end a piece or section of music or a section or writing is as important as how you begin it. In this workshop, we will explore the musical concept of 'Cadences'. A Cadence like the 'imperfect authentic cadence' in the picture (http://www.teoria.com/en/reference/c/cadence.phpin)  is a sequence of notes or chords that creates a sense of finality of a section or piece.  There are different types of cadences with different nuances. We will be looking at how you end your phrases, paragraphs and sections, using different types of endings. In the workshop, the concept will be explored using demonstration, hands-on exercises and a show-and-tell at the end of the workshop. By the end of the session, you will have completed several written exercises and gained inspiration for further development. Bring what you prefer to work with e.g. notebook and pen or laptop etc. Suitable for experienced writers.
